Escape Speed (ve)
Escape speed (ve):
The minimum speed with which a body should be projected from the surface of the earth, so that it escapes from the earth’s gravitational field, is called the escape speed (ve) of the body. It is also called escape velocity.
On the surface of earth, escape speed of an object is 11.2 km/s. It means if an object (whatever be its mass) is thrown from the surface of earth in upward direction with the speed of 11.2 km/s (or more) then it will never return back. While calculating this speed it is assumed that there is no atmosphere around earth. If we really throw an object from the surface of earth with this much speed then it will simply burn to ashes because of friction with atmosphere.
