Four Possible Cases in Projection of Satellite
Four possible cases in projection of satellite:
Depending upon the horizontal speed of satellite four possible cases arise as follows [here, v = horizontal speed of satellite, vc = critical speed (or critical velocity) of satellite, ve = escape speed (or escape velocity) of satellite].
Case 1 ( v < vc ): Let horizontal speed be less than critical speed of satellite. In this case satellite falls on the earth.
Case 2 ( v = vc ): Let horizontal speed be equal to critical speed of satellite. In this case satellite orbits around the earth in a circular orbit.
Case 3 ( vc < v < ve ) : Let horizontal speed be greater than critical speed but less than escape speed of satellite. In this case satellite orbits around the earth in an elliptical orbit. This type of orbit is quite stable and hence it is most suitable for satellites.
Case 4 ( v > ve ): Let horizontal speed be equal to or greater than escape speed of satellite. In this case satellite escapes from the earth’s gravitational influence and it is lost into the space.
